Hummus with spice ground beef recipe

This creamy hummus, with spiced beef, feta cheese and fresh mint, is absolutely delicious! It’s the perfect appetizer, or turn it into a lightly high-protein meal.
Our long-time readers know how much we love the recipes for homemade hummus (shared many years ago). We’re always looking for new ways to enjoy it, and this is the source of this hummus with ground beef recipe.
We piled hummus on a lot of spice-laden ground beef, ground feta and fresh mint. It’s delicious, easy to make and can be paired with homemade pita bread, this faster loaf or with a light protein prep on a salad.
Key Ingredients
- Hummus: I highly recommend our simple hummus recipes, but feel free to use the brand you like store-bought.
- Ground beef: Looking for ground beef with fat (85/15 or close to it is perfect). The ground lambs are great too.
- spices: We want to use the Middle Eastern vibe with the spice mixture, so you combine rolled fennel, cinnamon, cayan, coriander and spice powder. These make the beef very delicious, almost intoxicating, warm spices.
- broth: Use beef soup, chicken soup, vegetable soup, or, if you are pinching water. We only need a little liquid to make our beef juiced.
- Feta and Mint: I love the salty pop of salty cheese and mint fresh flavor. That said, you can skip this entirely and add a spoonful of homemade Tzatziki sauce to the top.

My Tips for Making Hummus with Spiced Beef
Tip 1: Don’t miss the opportunity to brown beef. When cooking ground beef, I like to press it down into my skillet and resist the urge to stir it until the bottom turns brown. When it is, I stir and add the spice mixture.
Tip 2: The seasoned beef is really good. Think of ground beef as the top of hummus, so if you have a lot of experience, that’s OK. That’s a good thing. You might enjoy this with big bread and bring some hummus to every bite beef, so while the meat itself seems too seasoned, it works once it’s well organized.

6 servings
You will need
1 batch homemade hummus or 2 cups store-bought hummus
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon ground cilantro
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground green
1/4 teaspoon chili
1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
2 tablespoons olive oil

1/4 cup beef, chicken or water (60 ml)
2 tablespoons chopped mint leaves
1 oz crushed cheese cheese (28g)
direction
1Make spice mixture: In a small bowl, stir together cumin, coriander, cinnamon, spiced powder, chili and salt.
2Brown beef: Preheat a large skillet over medium heat. When hot, add olive oil and press the beef down into the pan. Cook, not bothering it until one side turns brown, about 8 minutes. Crush the beef and stir in the spice mixture for 2 minutes. Pour in the stock and cook until less and cook the beef, and cook for another 5 minutes.
3Serve: Pour hummus into a serving bowl with spiced beef and sprinkle over mint and feta.
